This is an hourly position listed at $33.91 per hour.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
This position provides the membership and developer community with proper system design and coordination to ensure timely construction of their service needs. Complies with cooperative construction specifications, the Public Service Commission, and the National Electrical Safety Code to further a well-designed system providing maximum service to the membership of the Cooperative.

ON THE JOB TRAINING
Provides employees with an overall exposure to equipment used and cooperative specifications so the employee can move to positions of increasing responsibility. Trains when schools are provided by Jones-Onslow EMC.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal working conditions inside and outside the building. Regular working hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, except company observed holidays. Working hours may be adjusted to provide efficiencies internally and provide better service to the members.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, route, and lay out electric distribution and service facilities including transformers in accordance with accepted specifications standards and policies.
- Handles staking projects completely with minimal direct supervision.
- Assures correct electronic staking sheets, material units and all other record responsibilities are maintained.
- Organizes field route and schedules appointments with members and developers.
- Receives service requests, service orders, returns telephone calls received while in the field.
- Prepare estimates for new services, relocations, upgrades, temporary services, and line extensions.
- Assures that all right-of-way easements and contractual documents are secured and documented according to legal and Co-op requirements.
- Provides a positive public relations program to maintain service in a prompt and courteous manner and to be the field contact with prospective members.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reports to assigned Division Head activities of previous day to seek advice and/or offers recommendations.
- Meets assigned Division Head to discuss activities relating to policy, consumer request.
- Handles special staking projects, and other assignments as directed by assigned Division Head.
- Works to assure jobs are done the most economical way, whenever possible including making cost estimates on activities.
- Works with Operations/Warehouse in the requisition of specific materials that may be needed for projects.
- Works with and in coordination with telephone, water, sewer, and CATV to avoid conflicts with construction.
- Aid with disaster response planning and recovery.
- Follow the cooperative safety rules as defined in the cooperative Safety Manual.
- Follow the cooperative Service Rules and Regulations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Requires a high school diploma or GED
- 5 years of experience in utility operations.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Ability to be self-motivated.
- Requires excellent computer skills for all communication and operational activities.
- Requires knowledge of electrical system operations and design.
- Maintains a knowledge of engineering practices related to power line design, power system construction and code requirements relating to utility operations.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and maintain a high degree of accuracy in work performance and finished work quality.
- Ability to render sound judgment decisions relating to safety, mechanical conditions, and recommendations for maintenance of the utility system.
- Displays an independent and decisive attitude, being alert and receptive to needed change, while exercising flexibility and control.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Cooperative members and employees and promotes continuous good member and public relations.
- Ability to perform outdoors, in adverse weather conditions for extended period of time.
- Ability to obtain and keep a NC Driver’s License.
- Ability to think clearly and must possess sound judgment abilities.
- Ability to work outdoors, in adverse weather conditions for time in confined areas.
- Ability to bend, stoop and stay on feet 8 hours a day.
- Ability to use tools in rough terrain.
- Ability to write in a clear legible manner.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to request clarification when needed.
- Ability to lift objects of various sizes and shapes weighing in excess of 25 pounds.
- Ability to climb structures and equipment more than 10 feet in height for the purpose of inspection, repair and evaluation.
- Ability to walk long distances over rough terrain for distances exceeding two miles.
